A large panel of chefs, bakers and other food experts has named Lantmännen Unibake’s Klosterbrød rye bread the best rye bread in Denmark.
Slightly acidic. Nice scent. Sweet acid. Fine tart aftertaste. Crispy crust with rolled oats. Good thick, crispy crust. Good texture. Moist but not soggy. Easy to cut. Versatile bread. These were some of the words the judges used to describe the test winner.
The test was conducted by the acknowledged Danish food and gourmet magazine Smag & Behag. 17 expert judges were brought in to smell, feel and taste the dark rye bread, which has been an integrated part of any Danish household for generations. Their task was to judge the appearance, smell, taste, crust, crumb, texture and fullness of the 21 different rye breads in the test and in the end, Unibake’s Klosterbrød was named the winner.
The test included rye bread from Danish high-end gourmet brands such as Emmery's, Il Fornaio, Lagkagehuset and Meyer, which makes the result even more remarkable.
- This award proves that our focus on quality is paying off. We promise our customers that our bread is at least the same quality as the best craft bakeries in Denmark. By winning this test ahead of prestigious Danish gourmet craft bakeries such as Emmery's, Il Fornaio, Lagkagehuset and Meyer we now actually have documentation that we live up to this promise – and then some, says division director in Lantmännen Unibake Denmark, Trine Egsgaard.
