Valentine’s Day. That day when young men start frantically googling the word ‘aphrodisiac’ and discover that fresh flowers aren’t only for sale at gas stations.
But is there an emerging business opportunity amongst all that love?
Interestingly, the sending of heart-shaped gifts and, eventually, greetings cards was a uniquely British tradition until it crossed the pond and caught the imagination of Americans. To say they took Valentine’s to their hearts is an understatement. They helped make this celebration of love second only to Christmas as an excuse to send cards and gifts.
Two hundred million roses-are-red-violets-are-blue related cards are sent in the USA annually, making up a huge slab of the one billion posted globally. Add to this all the millions of chocolates, items of jewellery and idealistic lingerie and you quickly get the impression that this love thing is big business.
Valentine’s Day is traditionally a time for sweet indulgences. And, at Lantmännen Unibake we have no shortage of sweet treats.
